This course is designed to assist officer involved shooting investigators, supervisors, and administrators in the investigation and protocol for officer involved shooting incidents.  The course addresses issues such as the investigation process, press relations, case preparation, “suicide by cop”, custodial deaths, traffic deaths, perceptual distortions, actual shootings, command considerations, department policy considerations, criminal vs. internal investigations, equipment needs, multi-jurisdictional responsibilities, manpower availability and proper response to officer involved shootings.

 

INSTRUCTOR:  DDA  Robert Hole who is a Deputy District Attorney for Contra Costa County in California and author of the book The Investigation of Officer Fatal Incidents, which is being used by over 100 police agencies throughout the United States and Canada.  He is currently responsible for assisting over 20 agencies in OIS and homicide investigations.  He has instructed at San Jose State University of California and various other colleges and police academies and is recognized as a leading authority in the field of OIS investigations.
